Whistle Signal Codes

Using a whistle to alert people to ICE activity

In this guide, you'll learn how to use a whistle to let people know that ICE is active nearby, and why we use whistles for this purpose.

If You Spot ICE

ICE nearby/spotted

3 short bursts TWEET-TWEET-TWEET

Someone is being detained

1 long blast TWEEEEEEEET
A crowd points their phone cameras in the same direction

When You Hear Whistles

  • Step outside
  • Start documenting/recording
  • Blow your own whistle to amplify the signal
  • Form a crowd
  • Make sure no one is alone
  • Stay together, stay loud, STAY NONVIOLENT

Why is this the protocol?

We use whistle signaling to:

  • Bring visibility to what's happening
  • Alert vulnerable people to seek safety
  • Draw witnesses and cameras
  • Create a 'chain reaction' - noise spreads fast

Spotted ICE?

Once you are safely out of the situation, report what you saw to an organization who can help.
